Info: Every vehicle needs an exhaust system in good working order and running at all times — the piping from the exhaust-manifold flange through the muffler or mufflers and tailpipes, securely fastened, with the point where exhaust exits extending beyond the rear or outside of the passenger compartment.

Every vehicle needs an exhaust system in good working order and running at all times — the piping from the exhaust-manifold flange through the muffler or mufflers and tailpipes, securely fastened, with the point where exhaust exits extending beyond the rear or outside of the passenger compartment. Flexible pipe isn't allowed except on diesel tractors or where the manufacturer's original specifications call for it (O.C.G.A. § 40-8-71). It's a misdemeanor to use, sell or offer for sale a muffler that causes excessive or unusual noise or annoying smoke, or any muffler cutout or bypass (which routes exhaust around the muffler). Georgia sets no decibel limit; bills proposing one (95 dB in 2021, and 70 dB / 95 dB for motorcycles in 2024) did not pass.
