Info: Your vehicle needs a working muffler or other effective noise-suppressing system, and it has to be operating at all times.

InfoVerified Jul 26, 2026

Your vehicle needs a working muffler or other effective noise-suppressing system, and it has to be operating at all times. Cutouts and bypasses (which route exhaust around the muffler) are prohibited, and so is any exhaust change that makes the vehicle louder than the muffler it was originally built with. Alaska sets no fixed decibel limit. Altering an exhaust particle emission system to make it less effective is also prohibited (13 AAC 04.215).
