Consumer fireworks are legal statewide in Kansas, but bottle rockets and M-80s are not, and cities and counties decide when and whether you may light any of them. Since 2025 (SB 199), seasonal retailers may sell June 20–July 7 and permanent brick-and-mortar retailers may sell year-round if registered annually with the State Fire Marshal (K.S.A. 31-502, 31-503). It is also illegal to discharge fireworks on any public roadway, on or under a vehicle, within 50 feet of a fireworks stand, or at a gas station. Kansas sets no statewide discharge dates, so check the local ordinance.

Oklahoma broadly permits consumer fireworks, but many municipalities — Oklahoma City and Tulsa among them — still ban or restrict use within city limits by local ordinance. As of May 20, 2026, the Rocket's Red Glare Act (SB 1948) legalized bottle rockets and stick-mounted skyrockets statewide and removed the seasonal sales-window requirement, so licensed retailers may now sell year-round. Counties may not restrict certain private noncommercial displays.
