Idaho allows studded tires only from October 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027. Idaho Code 49-948 prohibits motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers with tires having built-in studs on public highways between the first day of May and the thirtieth day of September annually, a recurring annual window dated here for the current season, so the studded season opened on October 1, 2026. The Idaho transportation board may grant special exemptions from the prohibited dates if it finds that enhancements to public safety outweigh the increased pavement wear.
