The windshield must let at least 70% of light through. The front side windows and the sidewings (the small vent windows) next to the driver must let at least 50% through — a measurable legal standard that replaced the former 70% administrative rule, effective July 1, 2026. Law-enforcement vehicles are exempt while on duty. (HF 766; Iowa Code 321.438(2))
