California limits how high the frame can sit, based on the vehicle's weight class. Max frame height: 23 in for a passenger car, 27 in up to 4,500 lb, 30 in up to 7,500 lb, and 31 in up to 10,000 lb. The body floor can sit no more than 5 in above the frame. (Cal. Veh. Code §24008.5.)
