No state-issued burning restrictions are in effect (Vermont FPR's live Wildfire Situation Update states "No State issued burning restrictions at this time" — Vermont statewide preparedness level 1, with 68 wildfires and 258.95 acres burned year to date per the agency data updated September 15, 2026). Standing rule: you must get a burn permit from your Town Forest Fire Warden before any open burning — it is the law (10 V.S.A. § 2645) — and local wardens may add their own restrictions when conditions warrant, so local conditions vary.
